How to come up with and write down your goals

But how do you plan out your goals? I usually start with 2-3 big goals. Goals that are a little bit crazy, but not too crazy though. It has to be possible, setting unrealistic goals will only put you back, because you will never achieve them. Have you ever heard of the SMART goal setting method? The SMART method means you write specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely goals.

For instance, you just started blogging and would like 1.000 visits a day by the end of the year. This is a SMART goal, by doing this you define what you want which will make it easier to achieve.

How to figure out what you want

So now you know how to write it down, but what are you writing down? Do you know what you want to achieve in life? Or maybe you haven’t got a single clue. It’s okay if you don’t know what you want this very minute, have a little brainstorm session and try to figure it out. You can ask yourself some questions like:

Where do I wanna be in 5 years / What would I like people to think about me / What is my dream scenario / How do I want to feel / What makes me feel excited / What are my passions / Etcetera

Pick up pen and paper and write down the answers to these questions, maybe you even have some questions yourself. Fill them out and you might just realize what you want to achieve. If you still don’t know, don’t be bothered. Sleep on it a night and read it back the next day. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

When setting goals don’t just think about your biz, think about different aspects of life. You can set goals for a lot of different things. Maybe you want to keep the house tidy, or you want to put more effort in your relationship.

A goal without a plan is just a dream.

When you have come up with your goals, wrote them down and know why you want to achieve these goals, it’s time to plan. Start breaking down your big goal into smaller parts. For instance, your big goal is having a 100.000 monthly visitors on your blog. You won’t be able to do this in an instant. You need to break it down into bite size chunks. So a 100.000 monthly visitors as a someday goal can be a 25.000 monthly visitor in a year. Or even smaller, 5.000 monthly visitors a month you can even set weekly and daily goals.

If you wrote down your chunks it’s time to write down which actionable steps you can make to achieve these goals. For instance, you want 100 visitors a day by next week, what can you do. You can focus on using Pinterest to get organic traffic. It’s also a good idea to utilize Facebook groups to share your content and implement SEO on your blog so you can be found on Google. Write down these steps and make a plan. Focus on a few of these steps and get to work. You can also use this free worksheet I made to help you with writing down your goals!

Stay at it

Keeping track of your goals is very important, its best to stay focused and know what you’re doing. That’s why you need to write down your goals somewhere you can always look back on them. I made a list in Evernote so I can always check my progress. But you can also use a notebook or something else that strikes your fancy.

But why is it so important to track your goals. When you check your goals regularly, at least once a month. Or more often depending on what type of goals you set. You can keep track of what is working and what not. You will know what you should be focused on and which tactics could be left out. This will help you achieve your goals even faster.

Last but surely not least I want to tell you to stay at it. Don’t give up, tracking your goals might not always be the most fun thing to do and sometimes you might feel like you are never going to achieve the goals you set. But if you listened to these tips, set smart goals and planned them out. I’m sure you will achieve them, even if it feels like you won’t. If I can do it I’m sure you can to and trust me, I wouldn’t be telling you this if I didn’t mean it! Oh and if you liked this post and the free worksheet.
